How To Make Green Smoothie For Fat Loss

A lot of people usually complain that they find it difficult to eat breakfast because of the time required to prepare it.

If you wake up 5.am in other for you to beat traffic, so you can get to work on time, Then I completely agree with you that it can be difficult to wake up to prepare a meal to eat for breakfast.

But you know as well that if you are HIGHLY serious about losing weight, you need to eat breakfast too.

That is because breakfast helps your body:

1. Kick start your body’s metabolism every morning
2. Fills you up and make you less tempted to eat junks
3. Rejuvenates your organ and make it work at optimum.

So, if you always have to rush out of the house in the morning and find it hard to eat breakfast, You should consider making “smoothies”. It’s easy to make and you can take it with you to work to drink at work too.

So, she came up with her own GREEN smoothie recipe too and every week, she shop for the ingredients and the picture below is from her grocery shopping for her weekly smoothies:


The above contains the below vegetables and fruits such as :

1. Apple
2. Leeks
3. Cucumbers
4. Green grapes
5. Banana
6. Baby Spinach
7. Brocolli
8. Pine Apple

And when she makes the Green Smoothie, here’s exactly what it looks like below:


Now, I know most of these Smoothies Ingredients above are very scarce and can be very expensive in Nigeria. So I want to show you how to make a quick delicious Green Smoothie With Local Nigerian Fruits And Vegetables.



1. Handful of Ugu or Baby Spinach (washed)
2. 1 chopped Apple
3. 1/2 banana
4. Ice Cubes
5. 1/2 cup of water


Put the Ugu/spinach, apple and banana in your blender cup. Then add a little water to it to allow it blend with smoothness.


Blend for 2-3 minutes until its very smooth using your blender, juicer etc.Personally I use a Nutribullet, but you can use a blender or Juicer of your choice.


Pour into a cup or bottle and put ice to make it have a refreshing cool taste. Here’s what the picture looks like after making mine and I want to encourage you to do exactly the same too.

NOTE: The sweetness in the apple will erase the “bitter” taste associated with Ugu or Spinach, and trust me, this smoothie taste really good. You can add a little bit of chopped pineapple if you want to increase the sweetness. This is allowed.

So try this smoothie, and add it to your list of what you’ll take as breakfast in the morning, to help you lose weight.

How To Quit Sugar!

Sugar Is harmful to your body! Personally, I call Sugar ….SLOW POISION!

This is because Sugar can do a lot of damage to your body, and “set you up” obesity, diabetes and heart disease.

And you won’t see this damage right away. It takes years and years of consuming a lot of sugar before you realise the extent of the damage done to your body.

Do you know that….Sugar is HIGHLY addictive?

When you consume sugar, it stimulates the pleasure centres’ of your brain. It gives your brain a sense of enjoyment.

That is why you see that people who are unhappy, annoyed, depressed turn to comfort eating where they eat cake, alcohol etc.

Eating sugary foods gives a part of your brain a bit of pleasure, which distracts your body from the pain or sadness that you are experiencing.

According to science, the type of pleasurable sensation you get from consuming too much sugar is similar to what happens when an addict takes cocaine.

After taking sugar for a while, you develop a tolerance.

This means for you to keep getting the same pleasurable feeling, you need to consume more and more sugar.

And at this point, you are now an addict!

QUESTION: Are you addicted to sugar?

If you drink fizzy drinks e.g. coke, fanta, pepsi etc on a daily basis or frequently, then you are addicted to sugar.

These Fizzy drinks contain between 6-8 spoons of sugar.

If you eat a lot of cake, chocolates or any other major flour based snack e.g. sausage rolls, Meat pie especially when you are sad or depressed or annoyed, then you are addicted to sugar.

If you are the type that cannot eat any food (e.g. beans, yam, Garri, Pap etc) without adding sugar to it, then you are addicted to sugar too.

So What Exactly Is The Problem With Sugar?

The problem with sugar is that, when you consume it in excess,  it causes the storage of fat.

Excess sugar in your body triggers your body to produce more insulin which tells your body’s fat storage cells to store more energy in form of fat in it’s cells.

And that is when you see the result of the stored energy in the form of fat that you can pinch around your belly with your hands.

My point is, Excess sugar is the cause of a “big body” like the one in the picture below:


So this year, the key to cutting down the fat in your body is to do everything possible within your power to QUIT sugar!

And I’d like to show you  exactly how to do that below….

1. Drink Fruit Infused Water

Cut any fruit of your choice into a water bottle or drinking bottle, and then fill that bottle with water, and shake for few seconds and you can start drinking.

Some examples of fruits you can use are Lemon, Pine Apple, Orange, Cucumber etc.

You can make pineapple and orange infused water by following the below:

1 orange, thinly sliced
1/2 cup of pineapple, thinly sliced

In a large jug, add your orange and pineapple slices, then fill the jug with water. Add ice and let the jug sit in the fridge for up to 1 hour .

Pour the water (without the pineapple and orange) into a cup and drink.

When the water is 1/4 left in the jug, refill the water and place back in the fridge and you can do this several times.

Eliminate sugary beverages like Fanta, Coke, Pepsi, or any other fizzy drinks from your daily meals. Instantly replace them with Lemon water and the fruit infused water I showed you above.

2. Wean Yourself Off Sugar Using Half Method

It’s easy for anyone to tell you to “cut out” sugar from what you eat daily. But in reality, most people are unable to do this because of addiction.

An alternative method is that you half the amount of sugar you eat daily. If you use 8 spoons of sugar right now, reduce it to 4.

After two weeks, reduce it down to 2 spoons. In another two weeks, reduce it to Zero!

When you approach it this way, you will give your body and your “brain” time to adjust and reduce your cravings easily.

The same thing applies to chocolate, cake, cookies, biscuit, sweetened yoghurt, ice cream and other sugar foods out there. If you eat them daily, reduce it to 3 times weekly, then after two weeks, cut it down to once a week etc.

3. Make Vegetables Your Best Friend!

A lot of Nigerians “claim” that they don’t like vegetables.

This is because, most times, we all believe that the major vegetables available are are cucumber, cabbage, lettuce, kale etc.

But in reality, we do have our own vegetables that we enjoy a lot. Bitter leaf, Garden Egg, Spinach (Green), Ugwu etc.

These are delicious vegetables that we cook on a daily basis. Cook them the healthy way and eat them as part of a daily meal.

Vegetables take longer to digest and then curb your cravings. You can expect to feel full after eating a bowl of Fish Vegetable stew with 1-2 slice of boiled potatoes/yam for instance.

4. Eat The Right Protein, Fat & Fibre Foods

Eat more protein, fat and fibre rich foods. These are highly satisfying and will keep your body full for a long time and prevent you from craving sugar.

Include coconut, roasted/boiled chicken, roasted/boiled fish, walnut, groundnut(peanut), cashew nuts, eggs, avocados, potatoes, beans and any other major animal fat in your diet.

5. Get Rid Of Every Sugary Snacks

Clean out your kitchen, throw out or donate all the food product that contain hidden or added sugar.

This include any food with added sugar, including juice, fizzy drinks, sweets, ice cream, cake, chocolate and every other sugar ladened food.

If you follow the above ideas, and you do it consistently for 1 – 2 months, you will be able to reduce the amount of sugar that you consume daily.

How To Eat Healthy Over The Christmas Holiday

The Christmas is upon us and it’s in 11 days from now.

If I am honest, it’s very difficult to eat healthy during the Christmas holiday considering every mouth watering fat inducing dish that will be flying around.

On a normal day, the average person will usually consume 1,500 to 3,000 calories of food daily. However, over the Christmas period, this consumption can rise up to around 4,500 to 6,000 calories on Christmas day!

According to the British Dietetic Association in the United Kingdom, people gain on average 2kg of extra fat over Christmas.This excess fat is caused by the amount of fat-inducing foods that is readily available to be consumed with reckless abandon.

If you are on a weight loss journey, it’s very easy to throw caution to the wind, live the moment and eat and eat until you drop while hoping that you will start all over again in January of the following year.

This is a plot, don’t fall for it. Do not let the festivity in the air derail you from your weight loss journey.

The truth is, you can still eat delicious meals over Christmas and enjoy every bit of this holiday without gaining extra weight.

As your fat loss coach, I’ve got your back on this one, and that is why I want to walk you through how you can eat healthy over the Christmas period.

Try these tips, and you will not only enjoy Christmas, you will also do it in a healthy way that will not leave you feeling guilty that you will gain weight from what you eat.

So without wasting time, let’s get down to it….

1. Be Selective In What You Eat…

The traditional Christmas meal in Nigeria is Rice. We love it so much that we make it in various different ways; White Rice With Stew, Fried Rice, Jollof Rice, Coconut Rice, Egg Fried Rice etc

And usually, this rice is served with chicken, Beef, Moi Moi, Fried Plantain, ColeSlaw as well.

There’s usually other foods available such as pounded yam and other pastries such as Chin Chin, Puff Puff, Buns, Fish/Meat Pie, and others such as cake, chocolates, icecream etc.

When eating your main meal over Christmas, be selective in what you eat. It’s ok to actually eat your rice, but you have to be selective in the way you eat it.

Here’s a good example of how to do that….

STEP #1: Serve yourself coconut/fried/jollof rice (whichever one you prefer) the size of your fist on a small plate.

STEP #2: Then peel the skin of chicken and put on the plate. It’s ok to put in Moi Moi as well.

STEP #3: Then add as much Vegetables as you can to your plate.

This will ensure that your plate has about 60% Protein (Chicken & Moi Moi), 20% Vegetables and then 20% Carbohydrates (Rice).

When you serve yourself in the above way, this will ensure that you are eating less calories. This is better than having your plate filled with 80% Carbohydrates (Rice) and 20% Protein (chicken).

Also….If you have to eat swallows e.g. Pounded yam.

Make sure the size of your pounded yam is very very small (less than the size of your fist), then add as much protein e.g. lean beef, chicken, fish etc. and also vegetables stew such as “Ugwu, Spinach etc” in it as much as possible.

By doing this, you will be eating less carbs, but taking in a lot of vegetables and protein from the beef/chicken.

But that is not all….

Ignore the cake, chocolate, chin chin, puff puff and any other food that is sugary. Instead, make fruit salad and snack on this instead.

A good example of a juicy fruit salad is when you combine Water Melon, Apple, Grapes, diced Mango, Pawpaw etc. You can use any other fruits in season.

2. Avoid Too Much Alcohol & Sugary Drinksice-water-1520106

Stay away as much as you can from drinking multiple bottles of beer, fizzy drinks, orange juice in packs such as five alive, chivita.

Most sugary drinks and alcohol are very high in calories and sugar content. Too much consumption will increase your chances of gaining weight. 

Instead, you can squeeze any fruits of your choice (e.g. Lemon, Cucumber, Orange etc) in water to flavour it and keep in the refrigerator for few hours to chill and drink this instead.

If you absolutely crave for alcohol and you really really want it badly, just 1 glass of red or white wine is ok to drink.

3. Use Smaller Plates

If you serve your meals in a large plate, you;ll tend to heap your plate full with lots of food than your body actually needs. ‘ll most likely pile the plate full with

But that is not all, you will be more inclined to want to finish the food on your plate and end up overeating just to ensure you don’t let it go to waste.

To avoid this, I want to STRONGLY suggest you dish your meals in a smaller plate. When you dish your food, use small plates to dish it. You can never put too much food on a small plate. It helps to limit portion sizes and prevent you from overeating.

4. Drink A Cup Of Water Before & After Every Meal

Before you eat any meal, make sure you drink a glass cup of water, and immediately after a meal, drink another cup of water.

I personally do this myself to prevent me from helping myself with multiple servings and “eating” too much, especially if the meal is my favourite or is delicious. .

And I believe this will work for you too. When you drink a glass of water before and after every meal, you will become full quickly, you will tend to eat less food.  And remember, the less of the fatty foods you eat, the better for you.

5. Learn To Say NO

I know this bit is very hard. But it’s something you have to do too. Every family friend or Neighbour or relative you visit over Christmas will offer you as much food as possible to eat.

If you are on a weight loss journey, or want to continue to stay healthy and you’ve had a fair share of food for the day, don’t be too shy to say NO to it.

Don’t feel bad about turning down a meal if you already have a stomach full of food. Politely turn it down, and if the family member is very close to you and you are unable to turn it down, simply ask for water and a snack instead.

6.Keep Active And Stress-free

I will not ask you to do some high-intensity workout or go to the gym on Christmas or Boxing day. But what I’ll advise is that you keep active on that day in a different way.

Take brisk walks for about 15 -20 minutes. This will help your body work and burn those extra calories and also help you destress too.

So there you have it! If you follow what I have shown you above, you will be able to eat healthy over Christmas and still maintain your desired weight.

So, try these tips over the next few days running up to Christmas and let me know how it goes.

Bananas: Good Or Bad?

A lot of people have doubts on whether to eat banana or not when trying to lose weight.

Not only that, some fitness trainers or weight loss enthusiast will encourage people NOT to eat Bananas because they believe it contain a lot of sugar and is fattening.

So the question is, should you REALLY eat banana for weight loss?

The short answer is YES!

But, let me explain WHY to you…..

You see….An average sized banana contains about 105 calories. Over 90% of all the calories in that banana contains carbs.

Banana’s is also a good source of several nutrients including potassium, Vitamin B and vitamin C.

Banana contains 27 grams of NATURAL sugar. This sugar is COMPLETELY different from the white granulated processed sugar that you add into your tea or drink.

This natural sugar is actually called Fructose, and the fructose sugar contained in bananas will not make you gain fat.

But that is not all, banana also contain a decent amount of fibre, which makes it very good for you.lib-eggbanana1

As long as you are eating it as part of a healthy weight loss diet, it is perfectly nutritious and healthy to eat.

What I Mean Is This….

If you consume 1 – 2 piece of banana in a day, it will NOT make you fat.

You can actually eat banana as a breakfast meal alongside with egg, just like I have explained in this healthy fat loss breakfast.

So when next you eat banana and some ““I know it all” person tells you “Banana is fattening”, you can smile and ignore them because you now know that Banana is good for you if you are trying to lose weight.
